Upgrading to Mail Archiver 2.7
Error message when downloading the license
Settings for IMAP
As you most likely know Imap is a mail protocol, which keeps mails on the server so that it can be accessed from more than one computer. Mails can be downloaded to your computer so that you have access to them if there is no connection to the Internet. Mail Archiver at the moment is only capable of reading the information that is stored locally on your computer. Each mail client has a special setting for this to work.
As usual every mail client has a bit of a different terminology and places this setting differently.
Apple Mail:
Go to Preferences/Accounts, select an account and then the "Advanced" tabsheet. The option "Keep copies for offline viewing" needs to be set to "All messages and their attachments".

Microsoft Entourage:
Go to the Account settings, select an account and then the tabsheet "Options". There "Always download complete message" needs to be checked. The next 2 checkboxes "Only in Inbox" and "Partially retrieve messages over xxx kb" need to be unchecked. Unfortunately, the screenshot is in German, because Microsoft doesn't really get localization.

Microsoft Outlook:
Go to preferences/Accounts, select an account and then click on the "Extended" button. There "Always download complete message" needs to be checked. The next checkbox "Only in Inbox" needs to be unchecked. The screenshot is again in German.

Thunderbird:
Go to Tools/Account Settings and select an account. Then go to "Synchronization & Storage". The settings here are a bit more complicated. "Keep messages for this account on this computer" needs to be checked. Keep all mailboxes selected in the window that shows up when you click the "Advanced" button. The options for Disk Space need to be set to "Synchronize all message locally regardless of age". Finally, in the Recover Disk Space section "Don't delete messages" needs to be set.

Postbox:
Go to Preferences/Accounts and select an account. Then go to "Local Storage". In the "Offline" section make sure that "Make the messages in my Inbox available when I'm working offline" and "When I create new folders, select them for offline use" are selected. When clicking the button "Select folders for offline use" make sure that all existing folders are selected. In the Disk Space section select "Don't delete any messages".

Powermail:
Powermail doesn't allow an individual setting for each account. It's only possible to set this option globally. Go to Setup/Mail Schedules and Locations. There go to the tabsheet "Options" and make sure that "Partially retrieve POP messages over xxx k" is not checked. And yes, even if it says POP it also means Imap.

Filemaker and Unicode
If you see squares instead of the chinese characters you expected in Filemaker then this is not an issue of Mail Archiver X. Instead you need to change the font to "Arial Unicode MS". This was the only font I found that worked. This isn't necessary for the message body from Mail Archiver 2.7 on because the html is capable of showing the chinese characters.

Upgrading to Mail Archiver 2.7
Mail Archiver 2.7 requires for technical reasons new serial numbers. Go to the upgrade PDF to get a detailed guide for getting the update. In short:
- Click on the URL of the Esellerate Store and start the purchase process with the „Buy“ button.
- Enter the Coupon ID from the mail you received from Moth Software on the right side, click on the „Enter“ button.
- Enter your personal details on the left side. Finally click on the „Checkout“ button.
- Notice that there is nothing to pay! You won’t need your credit card details. Click on „Submit order“ to finalize the purchase.
- Instead of a serial number there is now a license file. Download this file by clicking on the link „Get License File“. Your order confirmation also contains a link to this file.
- Now start Mail Archiver. Click on Register and select the license file.
Error message when downloading the license
Mail Archiver 2.7 requires the download of a license file. For Safari you may see the error message "Failed to load resource: Frame load interrupted". This is a bug in Safari itself and is caused by the way eSellerate creates the url to the license file. The file itself is downloaded okay and you can ignore the error message.
Using Disk Utility
No computer is running perfectly all the time. Whenever your computer is showing odd error messages it's time to use Disk Utility. AppStorm has a very nice tutorial for using it.
